Principal's Statement

As a result of studying our students' daily performance, Nye teachers recognized the need for more thorough planning and clearer purposes in their daily lessons in both literacy and mathematics. We believe in studying "best practices" in teaching and working together to develop a powerful instructional program that promotes deeper thinking across all curriculum areas. We concentrate on raising student achievement through compelling teaching focused on needs. Teachers on our staff are willing to model instruction for one another and to share their classrooms with other schools in our district. We feel comprehensive professional development is key to ongoing improvement in student achievement. Our staff is afforded planning time to develop curriculum and teaching strategies to meet these goals. Administrators encourage the staff to visit other schools and to attend conferences, workshops, and program demonstrations.

Teachers are provided opportunities to study and improve instructional practices through grade-level meetings, visitations to other classrooms to observe instruction, participation in study groups, and direct training on specific instructional strategies. We continue to train our staff and strongly believe we will see the results of our work in improved student achievement.

Academic Progress

This table displays selected indicators of the school's academic progress. The Academic Performance Index (API) is an annual measure of the academic performance and progress of California's public schools. API scores range from 200 to 1,000, with a statewide API performance target of 800. The statewide API rank ranges from 1 to 10. Detailed information about the API can be found at the CDE website at:
https://www.cde.ca.gov/sdprofile/details.aspx?cds=37683386112478. Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) measures how well the school is performing based on standards required by the federal No Child Left Behind law.
